Operating System (OS) Streaming

After hardware and software virtualization, OS Streaming is the next step in virtualization. With OS Streaming, the operating system is not installed on the system disks, but is streamed to the system on the fly. This makes it possible to have systems without a harddisk (security), to use several operating systems/roles on one system (dynamic provisioning), to carry out updates quickly and in a controllable manner (including roll-back scenarios) and to limit the usage of (expensive) SAN disk space with xDI usage.

Citrix Provisioning Server (formerly known as Ardence) is an example of OS Streaming.
