Server Based Computing

The Server Based Computing (SBC) concept was adopted years ago and is still growing in popularity. The Server Based Computing concept consists of offering end users applications that are installed on central servers.

The SBC concept is often applied in order to:

  • Simplify the process of adding, updating and deploying applications.
  • Restrict the usage of bandwidth of (slow) network links.
  • Centralize ICT activities on one location.
  • Offer access to applications from a remote location via a secure methodology.
  • Reduce the maintenance on systems located on the workspace of the end user.

Examples of Server Based Computing products are Microsoft Remote Desktop Servers (RDS), Citrix XenApp (Presentation Server) and Quest vWorkspace.
